The beach life is grand. No pressure to be anywhere, to be someone your not, to dress up, or to talk the talk. Just relaxation, lots of vitamin D, leisure reading, and escape from the rest of the busy world. Ahhh, paradise.
As much as I love to lay around on the beach with a drink in my hand soaking up the sunshine, it does get a little boring so many days on end. I’ve read everything on my Kindle, I’ve tried all the tropical drink specials, and I’m turning a shade I like to call “Burnt Turkey.” Also known as shoe leather. A little too much sun soaking may have occurred. Oh well.
As I was getting restless one day, I noticed a group of people on stand up paddle boards, riding the waves. While I don’t love getting wet with salty ocean water, I knew this was something I could get behind, as they were entirely out of the water, fully standing on the board, and paddling around. I knew I had to give it a try.
I found a spot to rent an inflatable board, and in a flash, I was out in the water. It was a blast! I paddled around everywhere. It was a bit humbling at first, but I wasn’t about to let that stop me. I made some great friends along the way who had been doing this for a lot longer than I had. I took the advice of these enthusiasts, and I was able to stay up most of the day, without getting in the water, and MAN was it a workout. I was so sore the next day, especially my core. I’ve decided to cancel my gym membership that I never use anyways, and just stick to stand up paddle boarding for the rest of my life. I know I burned a ton of calories, as I was famished afterwards and ate most everything in site. I haven’t had that much fun in a long time. Especially if it could be considered exercise. It was an awesome way to spend the afternoon, that’s for sure, and I’ll be doing it again soon.
I’m wondering now if I should buy one of these things, and if I would get enough use out of it. Anyone with any experience on stand up paddle boards out there? Weigh in with your opinion – I seriously need to know over here! Thanks, and have a great one!
